Thank you for posting this provocative question and sharing your simple life downshift! I think my simple life was a collaboration between myself and Fate, but in any case, I couldn't be happier now. I have always had one foot in the simple life... decrying consumption, following simple living authors like Thich Nhat Hanh and Helen and Scott Nearing.. feeling at peace with what I had without too many expensive aspirations. All the while I had a "high octane" life in NJ working 60 hours a week and raising a family. In 2018, we bought a little cabin on a lake in Vermont, and the next year we undertook The Purge--we got rid of 2/3rds of our belongings and moved into our 680 square feet for good. This experience inspired my substack, Exit 9!
