I do a virtual reality workout called Supernatural. It has 3 levels of workout and incorporates squats and lunges in the boxing and 'flow' (like using batons to bat at targets) routines. I love it. But I need to do some squats outside of Supernatural. They offer such great benefits. With this silly broken foot, I have set a goal of 6300 steps but this week I am proud to say I am back to 10k. Need to follow your walking challenge.

How does that work, Leslie? Do you watch this workout? I remember reading somewhere that even just imagining physical activity gives you some benefit but I can't remember where, I'd love to find that article again. Yes, squats are very good for the leg and lower torso muscles. 10k step count is excellent - two and a half times our daily challenge! Join us any time.

I would like to be part of the challenge for February!

I eat mainly vegan. Lately life has been extremely hard and I have devolved into eating mainly snack foods which is terrible. My body is definitely rebelling. It’s time for some self-care!

You're welcome to join us, Kat. Find the Chat thread for Life In The Second Half Walking Challenge. That's where we log our daily efforts. Make sure you eat nutritious food and plenty of protein to sustain you as you build your 4,000 step count and 20 squats per day. Look forward to seeing your posts in the chat thread.

Thanks for sharing! I feel like we still have so much to learn about our gut biome! I’d say in the last 3 years I’ve gone from scoffing at expensive organic options to eating a much richer, cleaner, diverse diet (yes including meat and fish) now that our knowledge of gut health has grown.

Hi Patricia! I am Vegan (Whole Food Plant Based). I didn’t know squats are so beneficial. I will do more, now. Thank you! Eating the way you suggested may help people do squats since the belly should store less fat, making it easier. Since I stopped overeating, it has made easier for me to bend over, squat, do a lot of exercises. 😊

I wish I had the will power to be fully plant based but I don’t so I’m a pescatarian, though I was vegetarian for 20 years before I started eating fish. Sounds like you have a healthy regime of diet and exercise. Good for you.

But isn’t eating whole grains an American thing? Asians have always eaten white rice and Europeans eat finely milled flour. They laugh at whole wheat bread, which seems to be more pro-inflammatory. Wheat agglutinins. I am so confused.

I became interested in the Mediterranean diet as science has found it to be the healthiest. There they include whole grains in their way of eating. I'm English and I eat for my health rather than my culture so I include whole grains. Whole wheat bread is so good for you but the best is sourdough as it only has 3 ingredients, none of them sugar!
