Love to read fellow positive agers, so inspiring. I invite you read my story on functional aging which captures the essence of what you've shared here.

In the past exercise was productive. We had to walk to the shops or grow extra vegetables and we had to garden every day. We had to reach and squat to do daily chores. Now we just do exercise. I like how it is now because if I don’t want to walk all the way to the shop I can just do a stroll along the beach. But it takes a particular mindset to plan exercise routines so we can pick something up from the floor a few times a week or easily get in and out of the car once a week when we go shopping. I love how exercise makes me feel every day and I get the added benefit of being able to do everyday things with ease but I had to develop the right mindset so I could exercise everyday for once in a while situations. I have just noticed that I couldn’t step up as high as I could last year so I am adding step ups while I am out walking each day. Getting weaker can sneak up on us. I love reading about other people who have great exercise routines so I can always be improving my own routines. Greatly enjoyed your post.

I am curious about your photo. It looks like the warrier pose in yoga (which is called something else in Iyengar) but it is all wrong in the way I have been taught to do it. The thigh should be parallel to the ground and the body should be vertical - not leaning back. Am I missing something?

I am currently in Paris with my 15 year old grandson and walking 10K+ steps per day. Quite exhausting. But I was proud of myself because I went right up to the front of a queue to go into Notre Dame and said to the guard that I was 83 and couldn't stand in a long queue (it took almost an hour) and he let us in. My grandson spent the first 10 minutes worrying that he had jumped the queue when he was young and fit, but was then taken over by the glory of the place. Home tomorrow.

Hello Patricia! I'm finally a little better with a bit more freedom, so I've been exercising a lot in my swimming pool here in Spain, and am definitely reaping the benefits. I aim to do more walking in the next few weeks, if my intestines continue to quieten. I love your stretching series, so yummy.

Hi Francesca, I know you have your health issues, it's good to know you're feeling a little better. You'll have some building back up of strength to do, though swimming is such a good physical activity to do for lots of reasons. Sounds like slow and steady progress is the way you're heading. I wish you well in you're efforts. Happy walking and keep writing the poetry!

Yes, strength is an issue but there is a lot I can do in the water and I follow an aquagym YouTube channel that has some pretty intense workouts, and I use pool weights, too. Pool workouts are brilliant for people with fibromyalgia like me. And I’m lucky to be here in a warm climate many months a year, so the water is warm.
