Hello Patricia. I use to take creatine back in the 1990s, while building muscle. It definitely worked! However, I stopped because I wasn’t sure if it didn’t have any adverse effects back then. Recently, the science has come out in droves about its benefits. I intend to reintroduce it into my regimen, God willing.
Thank you for the article. It’s been motivational.
My research tells me that creatine, the supplement, converts to creatinine in the body, and a higher intake of creatine will naturally lead to higher creatinine levels in the blood. This increase is usually temporary and does not cause any long-term damage to the kidneys. However, Bexy, I would urge you to talk to a doctor or medic if you have any further questions about creatine, and you are considering taking the supplement.
I recently started taking creatine after watching several YouTube videos about the benefits for women 50+ in particular. I'm starting at quite a low dose of 3.5g. What made you increase your dose, and what was the main benefit of going from 5 to 10g?
I decided to increase from 5g to 10g when I read of the benefits of a higher dose to sleep deprivation, which I suffer from. I have a noisy neighbour and despite ear plugs, white noise device etc., I still am often tired. from being disturbed. That, my non-meat eating and my age, led me to think I should take more. But, as I say in the post, we are all different and need to take our individual needs into account when deciding on which supplements and what dosage. I'd be interested to know how you feel after taking it for a few months, Lisa.
Thanks, Patricia. I totally understand needing a higher dose for vegans and vegetarians. Is the higher dose helping against sleep deprivation? I have CPTSD and have suffered from sleep deprivation my whole life. I'll let you know how I go. I'm currently fasting to try to clear my inflammation that stems from CPTSD-related gut issues but I continue to take the creatine while fasting--apparently it's safe to do so. Ideally, I'd like to be vegetarian too, but I don't tolerate many foods so I have had to go more or less carnivore.
So far, Lisa, I'm coping well with the poor quality sleep and I'm not sure whether it's the higher dose of creatine or not. I think it must have something to do with it. When you get back to me on how you're doing with it I'll have been taking it for longer so might know more.
